Tripura demands conversion of meter into broad gauge

Agartala, Nov 06 (UNI) Tripura government has demanded the Centre to convert the rail line in the state's North District into a broadgauge and include it in the national project.

Speaking at conference here, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said the state government had stressed on the need of developing communication in this geographically backward North-Eastern state.

Mr Sarkar said the state government would demand to include the ongoing railway project into the national project.

To bring rapid development and progress in the state, it is necessary to the develop the surface, rail, air and telecommunication first, the CM claimed.

He also expressed his dissatisfaction over the recent announcement of the railway authorities that the rail would come here by December 2007.

However, the Prime Minister had earlier announced that the same will touch the capital city by March 2007.

Mr Sarkar, who is in charge of home portfolio, said the outfits were creating hinderance in the raiway works by abducting labourers and attacking the security forces.

The state government was fully alert and maintaining close watch so that the militants could not create any problem on the onging railway project in the state.

A parliamentary standing committee delegation on the railway led by CPI MP Basudev Acharya would come here today demanding the conversion of metregauge rail line into broadgauge.
