SC gives Centre 4 weeks to allot petrol pumps to Kargil martyrs

New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted four weeks' to the Centre to identify land and allote petrol pumps or LPG gas agencies to the families of Kargil war martyrs.

The bench comprising Justices A R Lakshmanan and Altamas Kabir granted four weeks after hearing the petitioner Jyotsana Dwivedi, who alleged that the family members and widows of the soldiers martyred during the Kargil war were not allotted petrol pumps and LPG gas agencies as promised by the government.

The court was also informed that only 22 cases remain while more than 350 have already been allotted petrol pumps. Counsel for the government, however, submitted that land was to be identified by the petitioner and she has not done anything in this regard so far.

The government had earlier announced that the families of those soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil war would be properly looked after and will be allotted petrol pumps from the government discretionary quota.
