Prime Minister reassures support to minorities
New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the Government was committed to protecting the rights and interests of minorities and it would not deviate from this commitment.
Dr Manmohan Singh was talking to His Holiness The catholicos Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Didimos I, supreme head of the Indian Orthodox Church, and his newly-- elected successor His Beatitude Paulose Mar Milithios, when they called on him.
The Prime Minister lauded the contributions of the Christian community to the fields of education, healthcare, societal improvement and other areas. He was happy that members of the community were playing responsible and efficient role at different levels of administration.
The catholicos was also accompanied by Fr Shaji Mathews, Church Working Committee member M G George Muthoot, Managing Committee member George Varghese and Mr Koshy Jacob.
They conveyed the greetings of the Orthodox Church to the Prime Minister and wished him well in ensuring an enlightened and people-friendly rule.
