Police confirm ULFA was behind Guwahati blasts

Guwahati, Nov 6 (UNI) The Asom police today confirmed the involvement of ULFA in the last evening's twin blasts here, in which 13 people were killed.

The state government said it will launch a ''frontal attack'' on the banned outfit. Governor Lt Gen. (Retd.) Ajay Sinha, who reviewed the ground situation, also confirmed the outfit's involvement.

The Governor visited the blasts site this afternoon. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who arrived here cutting short his visit to Delhi, also went straight to the site of carnage.

''This is shocking and barbaric,'' a visibly shocked Chief Minister said.

Chief Secretary S K Kabilan indicated that the state government would take necessary action.

The Governor was also in favour of a strong action against ULFA.

Union Home Secretary V K Duggal would reach here from New Delhi tonight to take part in the crucial Unified Command structure meeting to consider action against ULFA.

Mr Kabilan, GOC of 4 Corps Major General H K Lidder, DGP D N Dutta and intelligence Chief Khagen Sharma would be participating in the meeting, aimed at chalking out a strategy to confront insurgency in the state.
