Nilamani Deb new president of Tripura BJP unit

Agartala, Nov 6 (UNI) Senior BJP leader Nilamani Deb was elected the President of the Tripura party unit last evening here in the presence of two central leaders.

Mr Deb, who succeeded former president Ranajoy Deb, would continue till 2008 end, party sources said.

About three persons had filed their nomination to contest for the post but later on withdrew.

Orissa BJP MP Karabal Swain and another MP Taqir Gao were present as central observers and returning officers respectively.

Mr Nilamani Deb reiterated the party's commitment to intensify struggle against the Left Front government led by CPI(M) in the state.

He also alleged that the Left Front government had been misusing Central funds and failed to meet the needs and expectations of the common people.
