New Airport Terminal building to be ready by '07
Tiruchirapalli, Nov 6: As part of modernisation, the state-of-the-art new terminal building for Tiruchirapalli International Airport would be ready by 2007 end, said Airport Director S Sreekumar.
In an informal chat with newspersons here today, he said the new building would be a steel and glass structure, the first of its kind in the southern region.
Mr Sreekumar said the construction of the new terminal building with modern amenities at an outlay of Rs 100 crore had begun and the work was progressing.
He said an apron expansion project would also be executed at a cost of Rs 16.63 crore. Once the expansion work was completed, bigger seven aircraft like Airbus 321 and Boeing 737, could be parked at the new facility, as against the present capacity of only three aircraft.
Sources from travel agents as well as major airline operators indicated their interest in launching their services from Tiruchirapalli Airport.
