NBengal tea gardens say robust production
Siliguri, Nov 06: Tea gardens in North Bengal have reported robust production between January to August.
Darjeeling produced 71.04 lakh kilograms of tea, while Dooars produced 8.81 lakh kgs and Terai 4.75 lakh kgs respectively, according to a report of India Tea Planters Association (ITPA) and Jalpaiguri Tea Auction Centre (JTPC).
The report said the production of the current year was different from 2005. In 2005, Darjeeling produced 65.69 lakh kgs of tea, while Jalpaiguri produced 7.52 lakh kgs and Terai 4.14 lakh kgs of tea.
JTAC chief executive officer Kamal Bhattacharya told UNI that despite the drought and floods earlier in the year no tea garden has closed down.
