National Exhibition on aids for disabled
Chandigarh, Nov 6 (UNI) Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meera Kumar inaugurated a four-day national exhibition on aids/appliances and services for the disabled and the elderly here today.
The exhibition, Samarthya-2006, would facilitate the availabilty of aids and appliances free of cost to the disabled and elderly persons, Ms Kumar said.
The exhibition, organised by Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment, would display and distribute assistive devices, teaching kits, learning material services and barrier free features.
''It not only provides a unique opportunity for obtaining information on technologies available in the field of disability but also provides a forum for exchange of ideas among the users and providers of rehabilitation services,'' she said.
Besides, it would create awareness about prevention, early intervention and barrier free envifronment among general public.
The special features of the exhibition included organisation of mobile courts for redressing the grievances of the disabled, acreening of audio-described films for visually impaired, inter-state quiz competitions for Anganwadi workers.
