Mahabhisheka performed to Nandi statue in Chamundi hills
Mysore, Nov 6 (UNI) Thousands of devotees and tourists witnessed the Mahabhisheka of Nandi, a monolith statue of the sacred bull atop Chamundi hills, here today.
Mahabhisheka to the 342-year-old statue of Nandi was performed by enthusiasts of the city who visit the hills daily. Sri Shivarathri Deshekendra Swamiji of Suttur Mutt and various other religious heads were present on the occasion.
It was a delighful spectacle to watch the 16-ft-high and 25-ft-long statue in a sleeping posture being decorated with Kukuma and Arisina. The Mahabhisheka was performed with milk, curd, honey, ghee, banana, tender coconut and water. A deepotsava was organised in the evening on the occasion.
Though there was no record about performing mahabhisheka to the Nandi, it was said that it was performed about 150 years ago by the then rulers.
