IIT-K student commits suicide

Lucknow, Nov 6 (UNI) In yet another shocking incident, a PhD student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur (IIT-K) was today found dead in his hostel room.

Abhilash, a doctoral student of chemical engineering, is suspected to have consumed poison, IIT-K sources told UNI by phone.

Hailing from Kerala, he was known as a bright student and had just returned from Germany after an academic assignment.

It came as a real shock to IIT-K, which has witnessed three suicides in recent times.

The incident took place at a time when the Institute was in the festive mood celebrating its annual extravaganza 'Antaragni 2006'.

The family members of the student had been informed, while further investigations were on.
