Dalit prevented from becoming 'pramukh yajman' at yagya

Chhatarpur, MP, Nov 6 (UNI) A dalit, who donated Rs 1.20 lakh to become 'pramukh yajman (prime sponsor)' of a 'yagya', was prevented from sitting on the 'yagya vedi' after he was threatened with divine wrath by some caste Hindus.

Jamna Ahirwar had made the highest bid for becoming 'pramukh yajman' at the 'Nau Kundiya Mahayagya' that began at the Kalka Devi temple at Bachhaun village yesterday, according to villagers.

A father of six, Jamna mortgaged his four bigha land to a local 'sahukar (money lender)' for Rs 70,000 to arrange for the amount. After paying the entire amount to organisers, he was eagerly waiting for November 5.

However, caste Hindus threatened him with divine wrath. At the last moment, Jamna said he was authorising Bharatlal Dikshit to sit in the 'yagya' on his behalf in order to ward off any divine wrath that could occur because so far no 'dalit' in the village had become 'pramukh yajman'.

However, Collector Ajatshatru said he had received no complaint in this regard and will take appropriate action if the matter came before him.
