Construction of BITS campus in Dubai started

Dubai, Nov 6 (UNI) Construction of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) here has begun with the institute being the first to get its own land in the educational cluster being developed by the cityy.

The campus here is the first academic wing outside the country of the prestigious engineering institute, Director M Ramachandran said Classes for the academic year 2007-08 will start from September next year, he said, adding since its inception six years ago, it has grown 20 times in student strength with corresponding growth in the number of programmes and faculty.

The campus will be able to accommodate over 2,000 students. It will also offer six new programmes of six American universities where students completing two years here could continue their studies in the US.

''The campus now has over 1,200 students, 25 per cent of them are girls. Forty-five per cent students stay in dormitories and the rest are day scholars,'' he added.
