Congress stages 'dharna' in Gonda
Lucknow, Nov 6 (UNI) Irked over the decision of the Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) to countermand the elections of Gonda Nagar Palika Parishad, Congress workers organised a 'bandh' today and staged a 'dharna' on the Gonda-Lucknow highway.
The decision to countermand the elections was taken after a detailed probe following recommendation by the Gonda District Magistrate.
The Gonda DM had alleged that slient rigging and booth capturing was witnessed in the Nagar Palika Parishad polls held on October 28.
In the Gonda Nagar Palika Parishad, there are 27 wards and a post of a chairman.
A report from Gonda said a 'bandh' was organised by the Congress leaders to protest against the revoking of the elections. Besides, the activists carried out a procession on the Gonda-Lucknow highway disrupting the traffic for a couple of hours.
Meanwhile, the party has sent a memorandun to Additional District Magistrate (Finance) Jayant Kumar Dixit allegeing that the DM had recommended to annual the polls on the direction from Uttar Pradesh Chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Meanwhile, members of the Gonda Bar Association passed a resolution and condemned the decision of the SEC and boycotted the work.
