Cong Kerala condemns death sentence to Saddam

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 6: Strongly condemning the capital punishment awarded to former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, the Congress in Kerala today decided to organise marches and demonstrations throughout the state against the 'inhuman' act.

Talking to media here, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala said the court verdict was in tune with the 'game plan' of imperialist forces.

The verdict pronounced by a court set up by the occupation regime was inhuman and against universal justice, he said, adding that those who believed in democracy could not justify the action.

Asked if the party's national leadership had the same opinion about the death sentence to Saddam Hussein, Mr Chennithala said the party had expressed its views in the matter, but the UPA Government could take a stand only after considering all the aspects.
