CM seeks central funds for maintaining border roads
Shimla, Nov 6 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today urged the centre to provide additional funds for maintaining roads and bridges in the tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti, keeping in view the threat from across the border.
''Since the roads and bridges were the only mode of transportation in the tribal areas, their maintenance is essential for which funds should be provided by the Centre,'' he told Union Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju who called on him here.
Mr Singh said roads and several bridges in the tribal districts were damaged due to flash floods last year.
The two leaders also held detailed discussion on matters of internal security, strengthening border roads infrastructure and other issues.
Mr Pallam was here to take part in the tri-services training command conference, which would deliberate on how to promote integration of training between the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Commander-in-chiefs of training commands of three services besides several other senior officials from the ministry of Defence, Army, Navy, Air Force and Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff also attended the conference.
