CAIT demands fresh ordinance after SC order on sealing

New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) In the light of today's Supreme Court order on the sealing issue, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has demanded the Centre to immediately promulgate an ordinance to protect the traders from the sealing drive.

They reminded the government about the solemn assurance given by Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy in Parliament during the last session.

The traders regretted that no thought had been given about the lives and livelihood of lakhs of people while the order on sealing was issued. ''Humanitarian angle attached to the issue have been totally overlooked.'' No one at the helm of affairs cared for the future of families of the traders and their employees, which was inhuman, a statement added.

However, the traders were waiting for the outcome of the Group of Ministers' meet later today to discuss the problem in view of the apex court's order this morning. A meeting of the core committee of traders would be held thereafter.

Meanwhile, hectic activity was on in various markets across the city expressing disappointment at the order and chalk out the future course of action.

Yesterday, trade association leaders from different parts of the country had extended support to the business community in the national capital and threatened to organise 'Bharat Bandh' if merchants in Delhi were forced to close shops.

In a statement issued here, the trade leaders expressed concern over the sealing of commercial establishments in the city, which would cause mass scale unemployment.
