AMU beats PU to lift North Zone Inter-Varsity cricket title
Aligarh, Nov 6 (UNI) Imtiyaz Ahmed breathed fire and completed a match haul of 12 wickets as hosts Aligarh Muslim University pipped Punjab University, courtesy a first innings lead of 114 runs, to lift the North Zone Inter-Varsity Cricket Tournament here today.
Imtiyaz was in roaring form and it was his seven-wicket haul in the first innings that helped the hosts skittle out their rivals from Punjab for a paltry 58 runs, which was 114-run short of the AMU's first innings score of 172 runs and in the end, that proved decisive.
AMU declared their second innings at 291 for eight with twin half centuries from opener Shubham Binda (83) and captain Amir Anwer (72).
In their second essay, Punjab University scored 211 for seven with Imtiyaz claiming five wickets.
