50 per cent of Falcon cable system sold
New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) More than 50 per cent of Falcon cable system, the 10,000 Km submarine connectivity built at a cost of 400 million dollars by Reliance Communications has been sold owing to surging demands from buyers since its launch in September 2006.
The cable can be exponentially upgraded to 2.56 terabit from the current lit capacity of 90 gigabit. The cable system which was launched for commercial operations was ready six months ahead, a Reliance Spokesperson told UNI.
The total bandwith capacity sales of Reliance Communications Global arm since January 2006 has crossed 450 million dollars.
The cable system has seen a 500 per cent growth in volume sales in the last calendar year. One of the key reasons for the robust demand is the end-to-end connectivity solutions that most telecom companies and enterprises in the West Asia region have purchased on Falcon.
Falcon is the first terabit capacity cable constructed in the Gulf region, which is among the three fastest growing economic hubs in the world.
The demand for international bandwidth from Gulf region has been growing and leading industry analyst Ovumas forecast shows a 10-fold increase in bandwidth consumption till 2010. Liberalisation of telecom services as well as the broadband plans of GCC countries would further strengthen the international bandwidth demand.
The global business of Reliance Communications is spearheaded by its wholly owned subsidiary FLAG Telecom. FLAG Telecom became the largest undersea cable system in the world with the launch of FALCON Cable System in September 2006.
