4 teams qualify for Nehru hockey super league

New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) Four teams -- two from Delhi and one each from Gurgaon and Chandigarh -- sailed into the super league of the 35th Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament by winning their knockout matches at Shivaji Stadium here today.

Union Academy Senior Secondary School, Delhi toyed with GV Raja Sports School, Kerala before blanking them 9-0.

For the winners, who led 3-0 at half time, Ashok Kumar, Ashok Kumar Soni and Mayank James struck a brace each while Sarfraj Ahmed, Naveen Kumar and Dharmender chipped in with one goal each.

In another knockout match, Government Model High School, Chandigarh scored seven first half goals and five more after the breather to pound Sainik School, Bijapur 12-0.

Ranjodh Sing struck three and Simrandeep Singh and Deepak Kumar scored two each, while Dharamvir Singh, Rupiner Pal Singh, Harinder Singh, Harjit Singh and Davinder Singh contributed one each.

Guru Harkrishan Public School, Delhi struck three first half goals to get the better of CRZ Senior Secondary School, Sonepat 3-1 to reach the super league.

Sajjan Singh,Ravinder Tewatia and Mehtab Singh scored for the winners, while Mukesh Dalal reduced the margin for the losers.

In another match today, Gurgaon Senior Secondary School had to toil in the middle to beat Guru Gobind Singh Sports College, Lucknow 2-1.

Naveen kumar and Pardeep Kumar were the goal-getters for the winners, while Abhinav Walter scored the lone goal for the Lucknow side.
