30 to 35 per cent turnout in Nalanda and Bhagalpur bypolls

Patna, Nov 6 (UNI) An estimated 30 to 35 per cent electorate today exercised their right to franchise in the byelections to Nalanda and Bhagalpur Parliamentary constituencies under a massive security umbrella.

Sources at the state election office said here that no untoward incident was reported from any part of both constituencies, where the turnout remained low.

The sources said at some polling booths in Bhagalpur constituency, the voters boycotted the elections and did not participate in the polling in protest against alleged non-development of their areas.

About 200 people were detained for trying to disturb the polls during the day.

A Bhagalpur report quoting District Magistrate Vipin Kumar said orders had been issued to lodge FIR against 22 polling personnel for not reporting to their election duties.

Altogether the fate of 13 candidates in Bhagalpur and eight candidates in Nalanda would be decided in today's bypol.
