30 per cent polls registered in Asom By-election till noon
Guwahati, Nov 6 (UNI) Over thirty per cent polling was reported till noon from Asom's Jamunamukh Assembly constituency in the by-poll today.
Election officials said the poll started peacefully at 7000 hrs in all 177 polling stations of the constituency.
A total of 1,41,650 voters are expected to cast vote to decide the fate of ten candidates from Jamunamukh constituency, vacated by AUDF chief Badarrudin Ajmal, who chose to retain the South Solmara seat.
The main fight for the seat will be between the AUDF candidate Sirajuddin Ajmal, Conress nominee Khalilur Rahman and Asom Gana Parishad candidte Habib Ali.
The AUDF has fielded Mr Ajmal's millionaire brother Sirajuddin , while Congress 'hijacked' Asom Gana Parishad candidate Khalilur Rahman Choudhury at the last moment and fielded the two-time AGP MLA.
The AGP ticket finally went to another big businessman Habib Ali.
The remaining seven candidates are independents.
