World Tennikoit championship begins tomorrow
Chennai, Nov 5 (UNI) Six countries will take part in the first World Tennikoit Championships for men and women at Velammal International School Panchetti, near here from tomorrow to November 10.
Talking to newspersons here, President of World and Indian Tennikoit Federation S Viswanathan said South Africa, Germany, Brazil, United Kingdom, Bangladesh and Pakistan and host India, would be vying for honours.
In the individual category, the competions will be held on tomorrow and November 7, while team championships will be held from November 9 to 10, he added.
Viswanathan said the format of the championship would be 20 minutes per match with two minute halves. The team competition will comprise two men's singles, two women's singles, two men's doubles, two women's doubles and two mixed doubles matches on Round Robin league format.
M V Muthuramalingam and Vel Murugan of Vellammal International school, the sponsors of the event have constructed a multi-purpose indoor stadium at a cost of Rs five crore. Named after legendary Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci, the stadium would be inaugurated tomorrow.
