Two women fight over accident victim's body
Phagwara, Nov 5 (UNI) Police was put in a piquant situation when two women, both claiming to be married to an accident victim, demanded his body.
The situation took an ugly turn when the two women, along with their family members, first fought in the local civil hospital as claimant of the body of their ''husband'' Avtar Singh and then took the dispute to the Sadar police station.
Avtar Singh, a resident of Panchhat village, who was riding a scooter, died on the spot when an unidentified vehicle hit him near Dhade village yesterday, police said yesterday.
It was learnt in the police station that Avtar Singh, who was working as a driver, married one Surinder Kaur of Bhattian village, some 23 years back against the wishes of his parents and had three sons.
On the other hand, another woman, identified as Baljit Kaur from Hoshiarpur, claimed the body as well as the property of Avtar, saying he had married her seven years ago and they had three daughters.
When Sadar police station SHO Lakhwinder Singh asked both the parties to show proof, Surinder Kaur produced some photos as well as some villagers as witness while Baljit Kaur could not produce any proof.
The relatives of the deceased also told the police that he was a con man and might have lured the other woman into marriage claiming to be owner of huge property. When confronted with reality, Baljit left the police station, said the SHO.
The police handed over the body of the deceased to Surinder Kaur after the post mortem.
