Stall Saddam's death : Left Front to UPA

Kolkata, Nov 5 (UNI) The ruling Left Front in West Bengal today urged the UPA Government at the centre to take a pro-active role to stall the death of the deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussain.

Condemning the sentence awarded to Saddam Hussain, Left Front Committee Chairman Biman Basu said it was a 'judicial assassination' going to be committed at the behest of the US Government.

"The trial of Saddam Hussain was a mockery of democracy and nothing but an attempt to wipe out a person who opposed US hegemony.

It is time that the UPA Government assumes a firm stand to stall his death," he said.

The fact that a number of counsels of Saddam Hussain died during the trial was a pointer to the fact how the US and its 'puppet government' in Iraq were bent on finishing him off, Mr.Basu said.

He said the Left Front would seat for an urgent meeting tomorrow to chalk out its programmes in protest against the death sentence of Saddam Hussain.

In an impromptu action, Front workers organised protest march all over the state today as a mark of protest against the trial court verdict in Baghdad.
