SGPC-run college to have radio station

Fatehgarh Sahib, Nov 5 (UNI) Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has given its approval to Mata Gujri College (MGC), Fatehgarh Sahib to set up a low-powered radio station in the college premises.

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar, when contacted today, said that this project was discussed in the recent meeting of the SGPC executive committee and the committee members gave their consent to set up the radio station in the college.

Mata Gujri College will be first college in the state to have its own radio station.

Jathedar Makkar said that eminent educationist and MGC principal Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia had sent a proposal of the lower-powered radio station and after discussions, the final approval was given to the project by the SGPC. He said that this project would be handled by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the college and it would not only provide a proper platform for the training of the students but also serve the people in a radius of 25 km around Fatehgarh Sahib.

He said that the initial cost of the project, including machinery, would not be more than Rs 10 lakh including the spectrum usage fee as determined by the WPC Wing of the Ministry of Communications.
