Saddam sentence: Security beefed up in TN
Chennai, Nov 5 (UNI) Security has been beefed up in Tamil Nadu to avoid any untoward incidents following awarding of death sentence to former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein by a US-backed Iraqi court.
Police said round the clock vigil has been ordered, patrolling and vehicle check-ups have been intensified, movement of persons from other states and abroad are also monitored.
Security cover has been enhanced in all the important temples and other places of worship, reservoirs, airports, ports, railway stations, bus terminals, heritage and historic buildings and other crowded places.
Police teams would verify the credentials of each and every inmates, who are lodged in the city including private guest houses in Tamil Nadu, sources added.
In the city, adequate police protection was provided to all foreign consulate offices especially to the U S Consulate General's office.
Red alert has been sounded in the entire coast of Tamil Nadu in order to prevent intruders entering the country, via sea route, sources added.
