RBI Governor promises support to pilot project
Hyderabad, Nov 5: Reserve Bank of India Governor Y V Reddy has assured Andhra Pradesh of all out support to a pilot project for disbursals under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the State, through the use of smart cards linked to bank accounts.
The State Government, for the first time in the country, had taken up a scheme under which the card could be used for social security programme, as well as for banking transaction and could act as a unique identifier card, he told a Conclave of Indian Banks here last night.
''All relevant details relating to a person can be stored on the card with biometric identification'', he added.
