Ramadass to go ahead with fast
Puducherry, Nov 5 (UNI) In spite of appeal from several Congress councillors to drop his agitation, PMK Parliamentary Party Leader Prof M Ramadass has decided to go ahead with his one-day fast here tomorrow.
The fast, to be undertaken infront of the Swadeshi Cotton Mills is to press the state government to take immediate steps to devolve powers to the elected representatives of the local bodies.
A special session of the Territorial Assembly has to be convened to introduce and pass a Bill.
Prof Ramadass maintained that his several efforts to get due powers to the elected representatives of the local bodies failed as Chief Minister N Rangasamy could not to fulfil his promises in this regard. He had no option other than to go on a one-day fast to pressurise the government.
On the other hand, the fast by the PMK parliament member with full support from of the party High Command is intended to give a crisis to the Rangasamy Government as the PMK felt that the government had failed to adopt a proper stand in the JIPMER autonomy issue.
The PMK Tindivanam Lok Sabha member Prof Dhanraj also never missed an opportunity to trouble the Puducherry Administration and had opposed the move of the government to acquire land for the expansion of the airport runway here.
