Rain plays spoilsport; umpires to inspect wicket at 2000 hrs

Mumbai, Nov 5 (UNI) Rain proved to be the dampener in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy between Australia and West Indies as unseasonal showers delayed the restart of the match after the mid-innings break at the Brabourne stadium here this evening.

Australia, needing 139 to win, were 45 for two in 10 overs with Damien Martyn on 17 and Shane Watson on 21 at the crease when rain stopped the game.

The umpires would be having another inspection of the wicket at 2000 hrs before they decide on the time to start the match.

Another 10 more overs are needed to be bowled if the match has to be completed today. If 10 more overs are bowled, it would constitute a match and the winner would be decided via the Duckworth/Lewis system.

In case, another 10 overs can not be bowled today, then the final would be carried over tomorrow with the match resuming from the position it was when it was halted.
