Martyn, Watson take Australia to victory

Mumbai, Nov 5 (UNI) Damien Martyn and Shane Watson played sensibly to help Australia lift the Champions Trophy with a thumping eight-wicket win over West Indies at the Brabourne stadium here today.

Australia, set a revised target of 116 runs in 35 overs after rain robbed two hours of play, recovered from the shock of two early wickets of Adam Gilchrist and skipper Ricky Ponting, with only 13 on the board to canter to the victory, making 116 for two in just 28.1 overs.

Martyn, with 47 not out and Shane Watson with 57 not out added an unbroken 103 runs for the third wicket to take Australia to victory.

With this win, Australia managed to break the Champions Trophy jinx winning this second most important trophy after the World Cup for the first time.

Earlier, Glenn McGrath and Nathan Bracken broke the back of the top order of West Indies to skittle them out for 138 with Bracken being the most successful bowler with 3-22. McGrath took 2-22 and was backed up by Shane Watson who came to finish off the tail, taking two for 11.
