HR activists urge Governor to return Ordinance on lands
Hyderabad, Nov 5 (UNI) Several Civil Rights organisations today met Andhra Pradesh Governor Rameswar Thakur, under the leadership of well-known jurist K G Kannabhiran, and urged him not to give assent to the proposed Ordinance aimed at acquiring the assigned lands of the poor on the city outskirts.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to this effect.
Speaking to newspersons later, Mr Kannabhiran said if the Governor sends the Ordinance back, people would understand the seriousness of the issue.
He said it was highly improper on the part of the government to snatch the lands of the poor and sell them to the rich, and added they were going to organise mass movement if the government did not give up its attempt.
Bojja Tharakam, while opposing the take over of lands, said should the government acquire, the land should be used for public purpose, benefitting the poor.
