Devotees throng Golden Temple on Guru Nanak birthday

Chandigarh, Nov 5 (UNI) Thousands of devotees today thronged the Golden Temple at Amritsar, the holiest Sikh shrine and paid obeisance at the Harmandir Sahib, the sanctoum sanctorum on the occasion of the 537th birth anniversary of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak.

The devotees took a dip in the holy sarowar inside the shrine and also listened to 'kirtan'.They also partook 'langar' at the Guru Ram Dass langar (community kitchen) of the Golden Temple.

Similarly lakhs of devotees also paid obeisance at Gurdwara Sacha Sauda in Sultanpur Lodhi of Kapurthala, where Guru Nanak spent a long period of his life. Devotees also paid obeisance at the other historic gurdwaras of Punjab, including those at Muktsar, Anandpur Sahib, Damdama Sahib, Baba Bakala and Goindwal Sahib.

In Haryana, devotees thronged the gurdwaras at various places to pay obeisance and listten to 'gurbani'. A large number of devotees from Chandigarh paid obeisance at the historic Nadda Sahib gurdwara near Panchkula and also at the local shrines.In Himachal Pradesh, thousands of devotees visited the historic gurdwara at Manikaran in Kullu district.

Devotees organised 'langars' along highways in various parts of Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
