Delhi Sikhs celebrate Guru Nanak's birth centenary
New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) Sikh Guru Nanak Dev's birth centenary was celebrated here today with religious fervour and gaiety with a large number of people paying their prayers at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in the Capital.
Thousands of people gathered at the gurdwara since morning wearing colourful dresses to celebrate the festival popularly known as 'Parkash Purab'.
While addressing the gathering, Delhi Unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal S Paramjit Singh Sarna welcomed the move of the government to reserve a percentage of jobs in public and private sectors for the minorities.
He praised Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for initiating the move for the betterment of the minority communities in the country.
He lauded the efforts of Punjab Chief Mininster Amarinder Singh for allotting a piece of land near Sri Harmander Sahib in Amritsar to Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee for the construction of a sarai for the pilgrims from Delhi.
