CRPF lifts Federation Cup title

Lucknow, Nov 5 (UNI) The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) won the Federation Cup Championship here today beating the Central Industiral Security Force (CISF) 30-19.

The winners were leading by 21-12 goals over the rivals CISF at half time. For the winner's, skipper Ashok netted maximum (8) goals.

Meanwhile, in the finals of the West Zone Handball championship for men and women, which was played simultaniously, Madhya Pradesh men's team in a well contested encounter against Gujarat came first at 37-36 in penalty throw stage. Venkatrao 13, Ravi Kumar and P Thakkar 7 each hit goals for MP lads.

In the women's final, Maharashtra girls got victory over Chhattisgarh at 18-11. Chhattisgarh, however, had to be satisfied with silver, while for the third place, Madhya Pradesh girls outclassed UP girls.

For the host Uttar Pradesh, both men and women teams were in the race for the bronze medal but victory showered only on men's team, while women's team slipped to the fourth place.

UP men in an easy contest beat Rajasthan 28-17 to clinch the bronze.

Uttar Pradesh food and Civil Supplies minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh gave away the prizes to the winners.
