Court acquits minor defendant in Saddam trial

BAGHDAD, Nov 5 (Reuters) The Iraqi High Tribunal acquitted today a local Baath party official for crimes against humanity in a session in which Saddam Hussein is also expected to hear a verdict.

Prosecutors had recommended the acquittal of Mohammed Azawi Ali for his role in the killing of 148 Shi'ite villagers following an assassination attempt on Saddam in 1982.

Prosecutors have recommended death by hanging for Saddam, who was expected to be summoned to court later.
