Centre to tap Arunachal's power potential: Shinde
Itanagar, Nov 5 (UNI) Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today said the Centre was committed to develop the power potential of Arunachal Pradesh, which could be termed as the future power house of the country.
Speaking at the inaugural day of the three-day sixth Buddha Mahotsava in the picturesque Tawang district this morning, Mr Shinde said the commissioning of the 2000 MW Subansiri power project and the 1500 MW Tawang hydro electric project of the National Hydro Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) would transform Arunachal into a hydro power giant of the country.
Regretting that almost 94 per cent of hydro power potential of the state was yet to be exploited, the minister said the Tenth and 11th planning commissions had planned for generation of 50,000 MW in the state.
He said 12 per cent of the power generated by these two projects would be provided free to the state government helping its economic development. Besides, benefittng the local people who would be provided power at one paisa per unit.
