Centre for research a Hisar evolves plan for DNA testing

Chandigarh, Nov 5 (UNI) The Centre for Research and Application in Plant Tissue Culture at Hisar has evolved a Rs 88 lakh plan for the development of a DNA testing facility.

Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said that this centre, one of the six Tissue Culture Centres recognised at the national level, had developed technology for commercial multiplication of sugarcane, safed musali and guava through tissue culture techniques.

He said that during the current financial year, this Centre would raise varieties of various plants by using tissue culture techniques and would undertake the production of vermi-compost.

Apart from this, the production of vermin-compost, vermin-wash and earthworms had also been started at the Centre.

The Department of Bio-Technology of the Central government had also identified this Centre as Regional Hardening Facility, Mr Mohan said.

He said that similarly, Haryana State Remote Sensing Application Centre, Hisar was also striving to make use of space technology for the developmental planning of the state. The information derived from the Indian and foreign satellite data on natural resources and environment was being used in providing the necessary inputs for preparing developmental plans in the State.

Mr Chander Mohan said that under the project entitled 'National Natural Resources Information System' a sum of Rs 1.90 crore had been provided by Central government's Department of Space to the Remote Sensing centre. Computerised spatial database on various natural resources and socio-economic aspects of each district had been prepared under the project, he added.
