Anthrax outbreak: GVMC takes precautionary measures

Visakhapatnam, Nov 5 (UNI) With reports on Anthrax outbreak in Srikakulam district, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has taken precautionary measures to check the spread of the disease.

Talking to reporters here, GVMC Chief Veterinary Officer N K Rao said inspections were being conducted continously at the GVMC slaughter house.

''Since flocks of sheep and goats are brought to the city from slaughter houses in Srikakulam, a thorough check had been initiated at the entry points in the city,'' he said.

He said the training for staff to detect anthrax in animals and methods to dispose anthrax affected animals were also initiated.
