9 more farmers have committed suicide in last 2 days, claims VJAS

Nagpur, Nov 5 (UNI) The Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS) today said that nine more farmers have ended their lives in Vidharbha region in the last two days.

VJAS, a non-governmental organisation, in a press release here claimed that five farmers had ended their lives in Yavatmal district, while two farmers had committed suicide in Wardha. One farmer each has committed suicide in Buldhana and Washim districts, the release added.

With this, the number of suicides in the region since June 2005 has touched 1,062, the VJAS said. The release claimed that 522 farmers had ended their lives in the current Kharif season -- from June till date.
