NABARD chief to review farmers' packages
Nagpur, Nov 3: National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) Chairman Y S P Thorat will hold a meeting here tomorrow to review the implementation of special relief packages announced by the Central and state governments for the distressed farmers of Vidarbha.
Announcing this today, bank officials said principal secretaries of the state government's various departments, including agriculture, rehabilitation, dairy development, revenue and co-operatives, will attend the meeting.
Earlier here on July 1, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced Rs 3,750 crore relief package for six districts of the region, worst-affected by farmers' suicides. These include Buldhana, Akola, Washim, Amravati, Yavatmal and Wardha.
Dr Singh had also announced an additional credit flow of Rs 1,275 crore through the NABARD for these six districts. In December 2005, the Maharashtra government had announced a relief package of Rs 1,072 crore for Vidarbha farmers.
