Agitation over script issue in Manipur

Imphal, Nov 3: The Meitei Erol Eyek Loina Sinlon Apunba Lup (Meelal), an NGO, announced its opposition to the appointment of new teachers as the government has not made it compulsory for the candidates to know Meitei Mayek.

The Meelal has threatened to launch a major stir if the government did not take steps for development of indigenous Meitei script.

The Meelal members had attacked educational institutes where Meitei Mayek was not taught properly. They also disrupted examinations for lecturers yesterday which ultimately led to cancellation of the examinations.
