Therie blames Rio for betraying people

Kohima, Nov 02: Nagaland's former finance minister and suspended Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) legislator K Therie has alleged that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has betrayed the people in implementing the Common Minimum Programme (CMP).

Mr Therie, who was a minister in the ruling Rio led DAN coalition ministry, had been suspended for his anti-party activities.

In a statement, Mr Therie said the CMP was responsible for the party's victory in the last Assembly elections.

However, Mr Rio had betrayed the CMP and decided to support the ongoing peace process.

Non-fulfillment of the commitments made to the people would lead to dire consequences for the DAN in the forthcoming general elections, Mr Therie said.

Mr Therie said he found no logic in Rio's stand that the on-going inter-factional clashes were political.

'' To my understanding political conflict is between the Centre and and the Nagas,''he said.

Solution to the Naga problem could not be fought out in between the factions and that the factional clashes were not political, he added.

He further alleged that under Rio's leadership the factional clashes have increased manifolds which proved that his policies have failed drastically.
