Reddy visits cyclone hit areas, announces relief
Guntur, Nov 2 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today visited different regions, where the cyclone had badly devastated the livelihood of people in the state.
He said the district administration had estimated the loss at Rs 250 crore.
About 23,400 people were shifted to 91 relief camps.
Later, talking to newspersons, the Chief Minister said the Krishna Delta system designed by Sir Arthur Cotton 150 years ago had become obsolete and needed immediate modernisation.
A committee of irrigation experts would be appointed for the purpose and modernisation work would start before January 2008, he said.
Dr Reddy said new houses would be constructed for those, who had lost their house and compensation would be given for partially damaged houses.
He also announced a compensation of Rs 750 per acre for crop loss for those farmers, whose holding did not exceed more than two and half acres.
