Raise in MPs pensions gets Cabinet nod

New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) The raise in the pensions of Members of Parliament got the Union Cabinet clearance today.

The Cabinet gave ex-post-facto approval to the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill, 2006, raising the minimum pension from Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 and family pension from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 per month.

This entails a financial burden of Rs seven crore per annum, Mr Chidambaram told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

The Bill was passed by the two House of Parliament in August and assented to by the President on September 12.
