NRI murder accused charged for extortion bid
Vadodara, Nov 2 (UNI) Four months after notorious gangster Kalpesh Kachia was acquitted in sensational NRI Manoj Patel murder case, city police have registered a case of extortion and intimidation against him and three of his accomplices, including an employee of Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (GSFC).
The complaint filed by Atula Shah, a woman employee of GSFC, charged the gangster with having threatened to kill her and her two sons if a sum of Rs 5 lakh was not paid to him.
Fatehgunj police inspector K M Gohil today said the extortion case was under investigation, but no one had been arrested so far.
In her complaint, the lady alleged that the gangster, who had earlier sent his accomplices to her Nizampura residence, had threatened over phone to eliminate her family after she refused to pay the sum.
Kachia and six of his accomplices, accused in the NRI murder case in the city in April, 2004, were recently acquitted by the trial court after all prime witnesses in the case turned hostile, denying to have given any statement against the accused to the police.
