K'taka fixes MSP for coconut at Rs 4,775 per quintal

Bangalore, Nov 2 (UNI) Karnataka Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Darshanapur today announced a minimium support price of Rs 4,775 per quintal for coconut in the State.

Talking to reporters here, he said the State Government had hiked the price from the present Rs 3,840 per quintal. The Government would release Rs 100 crore phasewise for the purchase of coconut.

The Ministry would open ten new centres to purchase coconut in the State, Mr Darshanapur said, adding that it was expected to purchase more than two lakh quintals of the crop.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would go to New Delhi on November eight to urge the Centre to hike the MSP further, he said.
