Jan Morcha, NCP
New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) Thousands of Jan Morcha, Nationalist Congress party, Communist Party of India and Janata Dal (S) workers led by former Prime Minister V P Singh today took out a rally to protest against the proposed sealing of commercial premises in the capital under the directions of the Supreme Court.
The rally originated from the historic Red Fort and ended at the Town Hall, where Delhi Pradesh Nationalist Congress Party President and MLA R S Bidhuri, Delhi Pradesh Janata Dal (S) President and Deputy Speaker of Delhi Assembly Shoaib Iqbal and CPI National Secretary Amarjeet Kaur along with scores of others courted arrest.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said it was unfortunate that despite Parliament having passed a legislation, Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act 2006, to suspend sealing and demolitions in the city, the drive had not stopped and lakhs of people faced the prospects of being displaced and losing their livelihood.
He lashed out at the Centre for acting in a weak manner and allowing its authority to be diluted by its failure to ensure implementation of the legislation passed by it, and demanded that sealing and demolitions should stop in the capital at once and for all.
