PM's claim of BJP internal fight to cover failures

New Delhi, Nov 2: Taking exception to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's comments on the 'non-existing' fight between two of its top leders--former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani, the BJP today said there can be hardly any example in any political party where two top leaders had worked together for five long decades.

Party General Secretary Arun Jaitley, charging the Prime Minister of speaking about fight among top party leaders to cover up the all round failure of his two and half year UPA coalition, said the government is bereft of any policy for economic policies, terror or peace process and the PM was in no position to exercise his powers vested by the Constitution independently.

He said the Prime Minister is seeking to buy his own propoganda by such baseless accusations, ''a tendency acquired by almost all rulers.'' ''Any debate on Atal-Advani fight has no takers and no other party can speak of such a political pair who have worked in tandem for promoting the ideology,'' he said, pointing to their relationship right from the Jan Sangh days.

He said terrorist instances was raising its head everywhere, the normalisation scenario in Jammu and Kashmir was nowhere in sight and the PM was unperturbed by the wake up calls resulting by the government's failure to alleviate the distress caused to the farmers by correct policies.

''If PM does not wake up to realities, the results of the byelections in several states and local body elections in Uttar Pradesh and the assembly elections in UP, Uttaranchal and Punjab slated to be held in the first quarter of 2007 should wake him from the slumber, he said.

Asked if the BJP would take back former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti after the party's conclusive victory in Vidisha Lok Sabha and Malehra assembly seat in Madhya Pradesh, Mr Jaitley said she was running a different party and the issue was not before the party.

"The media seems to be more interested in taking her back", he remarked.
