Four more farmers commit suicide in Marathwada
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Nov 2 (UNI) Parbhani district, about 200 km from the divisional headquarters, recorded suicides of four farmers in the last three days.
With this the number of farmers who committed suicide this year has increased to 43.
According to sources, Parbhani district administration has pressed tehsildars concerned into action to submit the reports in this regard for taking further steps to provide financial assistance to the kin of farmers.
The sources said that the farmers who committed suicide in the last three days include Vinayak Pandurang Deshmukh (35), a resident of Pedgaon, who jumped into a well in his farm. Another farmer Madhav Ingole (30) too jumped into the village well on Tuesday night in Purna taluka. Two farmers committed suicide in Manvat taluka including Taterao Barhate (50) and Ganesh DuttraoTare.
The sources said administration is yet to receive reports from the tehsildars concerned. Following reports further steps would be initiated for providing assistance.
According to the deputy divisional commissioner Dilip Shinde, 260 suicide cases were reported from different parts of Marathwada in 2006.
