Former SIMI chief re-arrested for conspiracy

Indore, Nov 2 (UNI) The Students Islamic Movement of India's former Madhya Pradesh president Imran Ansari, who gave escorting police personnel the slip after being brought here for a hearing, has been re-arrested.

The police said that Ansari was found hatching a conspiracy with other SIMI activists at a hotel where he was brought for a meal.

Another SIMI worker Abdul Rajjak was also apprehended yesterday.

''Following a recommendation from Indore Police, two personnel Rajesh and Parasram were suspended for dereliction of duty,'' said Khandwa's Superintendent of Police K D Parashar.

Ansari, who was brought here from Khandwa, gave the personnel the slip and conducted the SIMI meeting. Activists Gulrej and Akhtar alias Chand, who attended the gathering, are absconding.

In the wake of the Mumbai transit terror blasts, SIMI activists were rounded up and Ansari was arrested at Bhopal. He also stands accused of instigating a riot at Khandwa.
